Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, revealed that the social network is testing the addition of a “dislike” button in post comments.
Like other features that appear on the platform, this functionality is not yet available to all users, but the goal is to make Instagram’s comment section a more friendly place.
The “dislike” button allows a user to express disapproval of a comment, but, like YouTube, the number of “dislikes” will not be displayed to users.
The idea is that the numbers of likes and dislikes will show the platform which comments users find most relevant and which have been most disapproved, without creating competition.
It is still unclear exactly what Instagram will do with the like and dislike data on the platform, but it is possible they will use it as a compass to find offensive comments or those that violate community rules.
